It’s a new year and I decided that it was time for me to update this page a bit, give you a little more insight to who I am and what this blog is about, or rather what I had wanted it to be about.
When blogging first came about I remember thinking, “why in the world would I ever want to blog? What would I write about and who would care?”
Now look at me many years later and I’ve started blogging. What made me decide this was the time to start? I belonged to several groups or forums in the past that revolved around my interests. The problem was it was usually just ONE interest and I have many. Trying to keep up with group topics and all the different forums just became too much. So I decided to try my hand at creating my own group, run on my terms and revolving around ALL of my interests. What a major pain! Trying to keep everyone happy, trying to keep the drama to a minimum started to be more than it was worth. I wasn’t enjoying myself and resented having to check in with the group a couple of times a day. Not good, right? Half the time I felt like I was talking to myself anyway, so I decided to close the group and start blogging. The only person I had to please was myself.
I love to share recipes, help people out if I can, show off some of my work, and just rant about a topic if I want. I’m pleasing myself and no one else. If people don’t like what I have to say then they just move on. I don’t want to blog for a living. I don’t want to have to come up with new and creative content every day or even once a week in order to keep people coming back. That’s not why I decided to blog. I simply wanted to connect to people who share the same interests as I do. Instead of creating several different blogs for each of my interests I decided to lump everything in to one blog, I figured it’s who I am, so people can take it or leave it.
I spent 22 years in the Army and finally retired to the beautiful Pacific Northwest. After living in Texas I was really, really glad to come back home to the mountains, the trees and the rain. Yep, the rain. I love it. I will admit it can get a bit dreary sometimes, but you need the rain in order to have the green.
I am a crochet-aholic! I always seem to have a hook in my hand and fortunately my family appreciates my work and love receiving my finished products. I recently started testing patterns for designers and love it. I don’t know how many times I started working a pattern and couldn’t figure something out because it was poorly written, something was missing or simply couldn’t understand what the designer had in mind. With testing patterns I feel like I am helping the designer produce the best pattern she can.
I also love to cook and bake. Once again my family totally appreciates my endeavors and honestly curse me out sometimes. I’ve been told by a few that I just cook too well, it makes them eat more than they should. Collecting recipes and cookbooks is a passion. I have over 300 cookbooks and let’s not even begin to speculate how many recipes I have saved on the computer. I love sharing my recipes and my experiences in cooking.
I am a very casual Independent Consultant for Pampered Chef as well. That was more to support my PC habit than anything else. I love their bakeware, cookware and gadgets and can’t imagine my kitchen without them.
One of my other passions is cake decorating. I started out simply when my kids were little and recently started getting more and more elaborate.
So that’s a little bit about me. Enjoy your visit and I hope you find something worthwhile here while you are looking around.
