I finally bit the bullet and enrolled in college so I can get my Bachelors in Business Management. At 59 years old it seems rather daunting but it has been on my bucket list forever. I also need to find another job and if I want to do better than where I am at then I need a degree. Business management has always been one of my interests and there will never be a perfect time so I just decided to go for it.
I started the whole process last August but it took forever to get one of my transcripts. My first day was today. I decided to go with WGU – Western Governors University. My daughter received her Masters through them and couldn’t say enough good things about it. It’s all online and the cost is so very reasonable. I can do it on my own time at my own pace. Hopefully with my lifetime of different skills and experience I’ll be able to cruise through some of the coursework. Other courses I know are going to be a struggle. Math and then Statistics and Probabilities come to mind immediately.
So far I like how they work. They seem extremely supportive and helpful. You’re assigned a mentor who will stick with you the whole time you are with the school. They help you figure out your class load, keep you on track, and point you in the right direction if you need some specific help. They seem to really want to help you stay on track and pass your courses.
Another thing I appreciate about the course is you don’t have to worry about grades. You simply just pass. No worrying about grade point averages. You just have to prove that you are competent in the course. Isn’t that really how it should be? Can you imagine how much less stress there would be going through college would be if there was no worrying about grades?
We’ll see how things continue to go but for now it’s rather manageable. I’m hoping to finish this up within 18 months to 2 years. I only had about 22 credits that were transferrable so still have a lot to get through.
