My daughter’s 30th birthday has come and gone and I’m finally getting around to sharing her Disney inspired birthday cake.
It took her the longest time to decide on a cake. She wanted something classy and timeless and saw a Disney silhouette cake on Pinterest she liked.
The silhouettes definitely took some time and it wasn’t as simple as printing them out from the web. Oh no, I had to go and trace the images so i could make sure I had just the right size. I left the cutting out of the images to my other daughter while I was baking cakes. Then we took the templates and cut out silhouettes from black fondant.
We had images from Mary Poppins, Frozen, Cinderella, Beauty and the Beast, Tangled, The Little Mermaid and Wreck It Ralph.
The end result was very pretty but I have to pay much closer attention to my support system. You can’t really see it but the back side is sinking down quite a bit. I put the top layer close to the edge to give me some room in front and the edges of the bottom layer started to give way. I also didn’t put the top layer right over the supports I had, I missed about half of them. Needless to say after a few hours the top layer had almost slid right off. That’ll teach me to put more emphasis on supports.
