WIP Wednesday – Squares for World’s Biggest Stocking

I was looking for some instant gratification crochet projects and came across Yarnspirations World’s Biggest Stocking and decided this fit the bill perfectly.

Yarnspirations is the name for Bernat, Caron, Paton’s and Lily Sugar and Cream yarns. They have a yarn called Caron United that with every purchase .15 goes to the Children of Fallen Patriots Foundation. This is a non-profit organization that helps provide college educations to children of military members who have been lost in the line of duty. This seemed to be the perfect choice for me.

The squares for the stocking need to be 36″ x 36″, the perfect size for a small baby blanket or child’s lapghan. The squares will be stitched together to form the stocking and once pictures and all the official judging is done the stocking will be carefully taken apart and the individual squares donated to military charities.

These are the two squares I decided to make. They provide some patterns on the Yarnspirations website but I really liked these two patterns I already had.

This first one should be recognizable, I’ve made it several times already. The Picture Perfect Afghan by Darleen Hopkins. Yeah, I know, it’s Green Bay Packers colors. It was supposed to be more Christmasy than team colors. But hey, maybe some child who loves the Packers will get the square. I’ve run out of green and haven’t had a chance to go pick any up so here it sits, lingering, waiting to be finished.

This one is called A Whole Lotta Holes by Donna Mason Svara (Smoothfox). It can also be found on Ravelry and is FREE. You can see this one looks more like Christmas with the red and white.

So now I just need to hurry up and finish these and get them sent out. They would like to get started by the end of summer stitching all of the pieces together.
