Thanksgiving 2013

thanksgiving 2013

Whew! Another Thanksgiving done and now it’s officially the Christmas season which means I can start listening to Christmas music and watch Christmas movies. Yes, I wait until Thanksgiving before I pull out anything for Christmas. I think the holiday starts earlier and earlier every year and we all forget about Thanksgiving and what it should represent.

I had a small portion of my family over this year. I honestly wish it could have been my whole family, but it just wasn’t meant to be. There was great food and we all had a great time. It’s the first time in many, many years that we all actually sat around a table, no TV running in the background, and just enjoyed being together. Isn’t that what Thanksgiving should be? Every other time we get together half the family is in the living room watching TV and the other half at the dining room table trying to watch TV. It was so refreshing this year to be able to see and talk to everyone. It’s my goal to try and ensure we do this more often. Maybe we can eventually get the rest of the family back in to the fold.

Looking at the picture above it doesn’t look like a lot does it? I wish I would have taken a picture of my full plate before stuffing my face. The menu consisted of:

Roasted turkey
Stuffing
Three Corn Casserole
Sweet Potatoes with marshmallows
Coleslaw
Broccoli Salad
Mashed potatoes and gravy
Pistachio Salad
Cranberry sauce (sorry, from the can…family members love that stuff)
Rolls
New York Cheesecake
Pumpkin Cheesecake
Pumpkin Pie

It was a delicious meal and I certainly have been enjoying the leftovers!

I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving!
